CI Plus Module

CI Plus (CI+) is a technical specification that is an extension to the proven DVB (digital video broadcasting) common interface standard (DVB-CI). The CI Plus Forum finalised the specification in June 2008, which allows for the secure delivery of pay-TV services to CI Plus-compatible CE devices such as set-top boxes and integrated digital televisions (iDTVs).

Version 1.3.1 of CI Plus module has now been formally released by the CI+ LLP and from August 2012 it is the mandated version for all new host certification.  The new version has added several key feature enhancements; including:

• Playback Control License - Enhances the URI to allow extended functions on time limited content storage for Copy Never content
• Digital Only Token - Enables future use of premium pay-per-view services, by allowing certain content to be output over ONLY digital interfaces
• Operator Profile -Enables signalling from CAM to Host to enable operator features, such as bouquet signalling
• "Low-Speed" communication channel - Clearly specifies a minimum capability of an IP communication resource in the Host.

In addition, the PVR resource (V1.2 of the specification) is being removed; this is because it proved impossible to find a common mechanism of enabling CAS encrypted recording suitable for all common use CAS in Europe at least.

Ocean Blue has implemented the necessary changes to support the new CI Plus standard with our customers expected to pass accreditation by the end of 2012.  The modifications affect the Ocean Blue CI Plus, CI+ Browser (available as a platform agnostic, stand alone modules) and the Sunrise DVB (which can be supplied with the fully integrated CI Plus stack and CI+ browser).

Ocean Blue's CI Plus Module

Ocean Blue’s ‘CI+ Content Control’ system introduces a secure link between the Common Interface Conditional Access Module (CICAM) and host, enabling high value content to be encrypted. It provides additional security, a browser and copy protection. The CI specification interconnects a CAM (conditional access module) and digital TV receiver (The "Host") so that any encryption system can be used in the receiver. CI+ strengthens the original specification to combat piracy and enforce a relationship of trust between the host and the smartcard.

Ocean Blue can also supply the Voyager MHEG-5 CI+ browser for host machines, including set top boxes and televisions.
