Combining ACCESS’ NetFront™ Browser NX 2.0 DTV Profile and Ocean Blue’s Sunrise DVB middleware, the solution provides the industry with a fully compliant HbbTV solution, enabling CE manufacturers, SoC vendors and OEMs to offer a feature-rich, low-risk HbbTV solution with reduced time to market.

HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) is a European digital TV standard that brings together elements of other standards and existing web technologies to harmonise the delivery of broadcast and broadband content to consumers.

IBC recently reported (see “HbbTV Sweeps Interactive TV Across Europe” http://bit.ly/Lvc6gb) that there will be 60 million HbbTV compliant TV sets in Western Europe by 2014. IBC also reported that HbbTV is fast becoming the dominant standard for interactive, hybrid and OTT delivery in Europe and that: “Interest is also spreading overseas. HbbTV is being considered in the US, Japan, Australia, China, Singapore and Malaysia where the imminent terrestrial DVB-T2 roll-out has specified HbbTV.”

Ocean Blue’s Sunrise™ DVB Middleware

Sunrise is Ocean Blue's DVB family of software products, offering Free To Air (FTA) or Pay-per-view (PPV) functionality. It encompasses all the components required to provide clients with digital TV on a set top box or television and is modular, hardware agnostic and comprises all the elements needed for digital TV devices, while also supporting legacy analogue services.

This is a market-proven, extremely compact, upgradeable and platform-independent HbbTV software solution that enables OEMs, middleware companies and operators to upgrade or launch HbbTV capable devices and services quickly, efficiently and affordably.
