OCEAN BLUE'S HBBTV SOFTWARE NOW AVAILABLE ON RENESAS ELECTRONICS’ MPEG-4 HD DECODER

Bristol, UK - December 16, 2010

Ocean Blue Software today announced the collaboration with Renesas Electronics to port/

integrate the Ocean Blue / Opera HbbTV solution to Renesas Electronics’ EMMA™3SL/P HD SoC.  The HbbTV port is scheduled for customer demonstration in January 2011.

This collaboration enables customers to develop a complete low-cost set-top box (STB) reference solution that accelerates the time-to-market of terrestrial or satellite broadcast services with over-the-top (OTT) services. The jointly developed solution combines Renesas Electronics’ EMMA™3SL/P system-on-chip (SoC) and the Ocean Blue / Opera HbbTV software. It builds on the recently completed port of the Ocean Blue’s Voyager HD and Sunrise DVB stacks.

Renesas Electronics’ EMMA3SL/P SoC is compliant with high definition (HD) as well as the multi-format video support used for internet-protocol television (IP TV), which make it ideally suited for STB vendors to develop hybrid set top boxes at low cost.. The integrated Ethernet and USB2.0 ports make it easy to include desirable features such as USB Media players and DVR supporting multiple video formats.  Devices are available either as Free-to-Air or with advanced security features for Pay TV operators. The advanced security is already certified by leading Conditional Access Companies to protect against signal piracy.  The EMMA3SL/P SoC device is available and in mass production from Renesas Electronics.

"By integrating our EMMA3SL SoCs with HbbTV from Ocean Blue, we are able to perfectly meet customer demands for cost effective solutions that provide required performance for both IP-enabled  and Broadcast  PayTV,”  said Daniel Tanniere, General Manager of Communications and Consumer Business Unit, Renesas Electronics Europe. “We hope to extend our collaboration with Ocean Blue Software on our future R-Home products developed through Renesas Electronics' new integrated SoC platform."

Philip Evans, director of Ocean Blue said “With the arrival of this combined HbbTV solution and working with key partners such as Renesas Electronics, connected Hybrid Televisions and set-top boxes will be available to the market in a shorter time and at an affordable price.”
