CAShort for Conditional Access. In a DVB context, security technology used to control the access to broadcast content (including video and audio, interactive services, etc.) through the transmission of encrypted signals and the programmable regulation of their decryption by a system such as smart cards
CAMPlug-in device that fits into the CI slot to allow access to pay-TV services (When coupled with a Smartcard)
CASSmartcard system of controlling access to Pay-TV content
CATVOriginally, short for Community Antenna TV - a cable system covering a whole community. The term is now used synonymously with cable TV
CE"Consumer Electronics"
Common Interface (CI)Slot on a television or set-top box which allows connection to another device using the same open standard
Common Interface Plus (CI+)Extension to the CI standard adding additional security and features
Conditional Access Module (CAM)Plug-in device that fits into the CI slot to allow access to pay-TV services (When coupled with a Smartcard)
Conditional Access System (CAS)Smartcard system of controlling access to Pay-TV content
Connected TVA TV device with a connection to the internet enabling services to be delivered either via IP, or via both traditional broadcast and IP
Content providerEntity that owns or is licensed to sell content items
ConvergenceConvergence refers to a trend in consumer electronics which has seen multiple products, devices and media types come together into a single device
Copy protectionMechanism for protecting a distributed media file all the way to the hardware device that renders the file
Customer Premises Equipment (CPE)Any equipment used for accessing CTV services in the customer's premises, including home gateways and terminals
