Scart

A common way of connecting one TV product to another. It connects the picture and stereo sound in one plug. A fully-wired SCART cable can carry RGB signals

SDTV

Standard definition television

SECAM

Like PAL, Secam is an analogue encoding standard used in the broadcast of colour television. SECAM is French for 'Sequential Colour with Memory

SI

"Service Information". Service Information data forms a part of the DVB transport stream. It is included for two main reasons: So that an STB can automatically configure itself for the selected service, and so that the consumer can be provided with information to assist in selection of services and/or events within the bit stream

Simulcast

Broadcasting a programme on multiple different services at the same time

Smart card

Also known as a "subscription card". Card is inserted into the slot in a receiver (possibly via a CI module) that decrypts signals and allows the user to consume services

Spectrum

A range of electromagnetic radio frequencies used in the transmission of radio, data, and video

STB

Set top box

Switchover

The process of moving the country from the old analogue transmissions to digital
